Channel 4 News 02 September 2010 From The Times: Modern physics leaves no place for God in the creation of the Universe, Stephen Hawking has concluded. Just as Darwinism removed the need for a creator in the sphere of biology, Britain's most eminent scientist argues that a new series of theories have rendered redundant the role of a creator for the Universe. In his forthcoming book, an extract from which is published exclusively in Eureka, published today with The Times, Professor Hawking sets out to answer the question: "Did the Universe need a creator?" The answer he gives is a resounding "no". Far from being a once-in-a-million event that could only be accounted for by extraordinary serendipity or a divine hand, the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, Hawking says. "Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist," he writes. "It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going," he finds. richarddawkins.net

Please join us on Facebook for the latest science news and videos: tinyurl.com ESOcast 20: Richest planetary system discovered - A new era in exoplanet science (Release date: 24 August 2010). Astronomers using ESO instruments have discovered a remarkable extrasolar planetary system that has some striking similarities to our own Solar System. At least five planets are orbiting the Sun-like star HD 10180, and the regular pattern of their orbits is similar to that observed for our neighbouring planets. One of the new extrasolar worlds could be only 1.4 times the mass of the Earth, making it the least massive exoplanet ever found. This video podcast explains how these faraway planets were detected and exactly what we know about them. --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com --- Astronomers using ESO's world-leading HARPS instrument have discovered a planetary system containing at least five planets, orbiting the Sun-like star HD 10180. The researchers also believe the system has two other planets, one of which would have the lowest mass ever found, making the system similar to our own Solar System in terms of the number of planets. Furthermore, the scientists find that the location of the planets follows a regular pattern, as also seen in our own Solar System The team of astronomers used the HARPS spectrograph, attached to ESO's 3.6-metre telescope at La Silla, Chile. HARPS is an instrument with ...

When Hubble was launched in 1990, every astronomer knew it had an opportunity to make profound breakthroughs in science. A few realised its potential as a tool for inspiring people with awe for the Universe. But could anyone have predicted how deeply Hubble would become embedded in popular culture? --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com --- In many ways the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope is is the world's most sophisticated digital camera. Over the years, its photo album has featured many members of the cosmic family — ranging from baby stars to elderly galaxies. With all these amazing shots of space, it's easy to forget that Hubble is a superstar here on Earth, too. Hubble, for many people, has become a byword for "science". That's why, this summer, we asked you to send us your favourite examples of how Hubble has been used, or abused, in the daily life of us earthlings. We liked some of your suggestions so much that we wanted to share them. Hubble snapped this glowing planetary nebula, NGC 2818, ejected by a dying star more than 10 000 light-years away. But this scientific picture has also inspired art and design — for example this striking electric guitar. The guitar isn't the only example of how the world of music has ...

Did muhammed know about this stars in 6th century whitout teleskop ??? or was it God who revealed this info in quran. I have asked an arab what the tariq means and said it is knocker, knocking , if you translate word "trq" in arabic dictionary you will find this true that is knocking look here i38.tinypic.com this is proof that i am talking the truth This sura is Called "Tariq" original text transcripted in english letters 86:1.ve sema i ve tariq 2.ve ma edrake ma tariq 3. e-nedzmu sakib 1- By the heavens and The Knocker. 2- How will you comprehend what the The Knocker is? 3- It's a piercing star. 86-The Knocker, 1-3 The word "Tariq" stems from the root "TaRaQa" meaning "knocking, striking." In many translations of the Quran this word was taken for a name and left untranslated. The word may also mean "to pulsate" like a beating heart, from which the word "pulsar" is derived, denoting an object that is far away in space, and like a star produces a regular radio signal. LITTLE GREEN MEN OF THE UNIVERSE In 1967 Jocellyn Bell accidentally stumbled on a gravity time warp a million times greater than that produced by the sun. The object she detected was emitting regular pulses. These pulses were reminiscent of heart-beats. At the time, such a pulsating object was not known to exist in space. At first, it was concluded that these signals might well have been propagated by intelligent beings, inhabitants of other planets. Invitation cards were printed, the media were notified and ...

In the two decades since space shuttle Discovery roared into orbit with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, astronauts extended its abilities far beyond what was thought possible for longer than many thought realistic.
