A science briefing held at NASA Headquarters Nov. 15 discusses the discovery by astronomers using NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory of what could be the youngest black hole in our cosmic neighborhood — a mere 30 years old. The “baby” black hole is a remnant of SN 1979C, a supernova in the galaxy M100 about 50 million light years from Earth. Scientists believe that SN1979C, discovered by an amateur astronomer in 1979, formed with the collapse of a star about 20 times more massive than our Sun. The object’s detection provides a unique opportunity to watch a black hole develop during infancy.

Two scientists are suggesting that colonization of the red planet could happen faster and more economically if astronauts behaved like the first settlers to come to North America — not expecting to go home. Despite the lack of enthusiasm from NASA, Schulze-Makuch believes many people would be willing to make the sacrifice. He and Davies believe a Mars base would offer humanity a “lifeboat” if Earth became uninhabitable. “We are on a vulnerable planet,” Schulze-Makuch said. “Asteroid impact can threaten us, or a supernova explosion. If we want to survive as a species, we have to expand into the solar system and likely beyond.”

Antimatter atoms produced and trapped at CERN What is antimatter ? – What are you doing with the ALPHA experiment ? What’s new about it ? – What is the purpose of research with antimatter ? – How many people work on ALPHA ? What is the budget ? – Can you describe the apparatus here at CERN ? – How do you know you have made antihydrogen ? www.cern.ch

Do you know that cloning, synthetic biology, entropy and Ice Ages can be traced to The Bible? Can the discovery of the Higgs Boson, or God Particle, by scientists in CERN or FERMILAB help us perceive the spirit realm? In Faith Science, author Donnell Duncan exposes scientific mysteries hidden within scriptures then employs the scientific method to approach the study of faith. In this radical departure from common knowledge, Duncan seamlessly blends scientific research and scriptural truth. Are you ready for the impact caused by this collision between faith and The Scientific Method? If so, prepare for the ride of your life. For more info, visit www.faithscienceonline.com
