Various pictures of Space from either Google photos or from NASA. The song is called Mirrored Image by the group Cargo Cult. I figured the song had a very.. ethereal space like feel to it, and also Stephen Hawking wrote that the universe looks the same from any direction you view it, so I figured the title about a Mirror fit quite nicely. Not YouTube’s most amazing video, but I do hope you enjoy it, as Astronomy and Space are a source of endless wonder for me.

“The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.” – Charles Darwin “If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflating our conceits?” – Carl Sagan “We are star stuff which has taken its destiny into its own hands.” – Carl Sagan “It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.” – Carl Sagan “Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.” – Carl Sagan “Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.” – Carl Sagan “The reason why the universe is eternal is that it does not live for itself; it gives life to others as it transforms” – Lao Tzu quotes “Black holes are where God divided by zero.” – Steven Wright “The universe may have a purpose, but nothing we know suggests that, if so, this purpose has any similarity to ours.” – Bertrand Arthur William Russell “So long as the universe had a beginning, we could suppose it had a creator. But if the universe is really completely self-contained, having no boundaries or edge, it would have neither beginning nor end: it would simply be. What place, then, for a creator?” – Stephen Hawking Music used in this video: Lisa Gerrard (feat. Pieter Bourke) – See the Sun

“Of all the sciences cultivated by mankind, Astronomy is acknowledged to be, and undoubtedly is, the most sublime, the most interesting, and the most useful. For, by knowledge derived from this science, not only the bulk of the Earth is discovered …; but our very faculties are enlarged with the grandeur of the ideas it conveys, our minds exalted above [their] low contracted prejudices.” –James Ferguson, “Astronomy Explained Upon Sir Isaac Newtons Principles, And Made Easy To Those Who Have Not Studied Mathematics” (1757) — Subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com — The Cosmic Perspective Long before anyone knew that the universe had a beginning, before we knew that the nearest large galaxy lies two and a half million light-years from Earth, before we knew how stars work or whether atoms exist, James Ferguson’s enthusiastic introduction to his favorite science rang true. Yet his words, apart from their eighteenth-century flourish, could have been written yesterday. But who gets to think that way? Who gets to celebrate this cosmic view of life? Not the migrant farmworker. Not the sweatshop worker. Certainly not the homeless person rummaging through the trash for food. You need the luxury of time not spent on mere survival. You need to live in a nation whose government values the search to understand humanity’s place in the universe. You need a society in which intellectual pursuit can take you to the frontiers of discovery …

For decades, the US space agency, NASA, has been exploring space not only with manned spacecraft, like the space shuttle Atlantis, but with robotic space probes such as Mars Odyssey, or Cassini, currently exploring Saturn. Equipped with powerful cameras, these robots transmit pictures that provide information like the climate and topography of other planets. In the hands of photographer Michael Benson, those images become art. A new exhibition at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington features nearly 150 of Benson’s transformed photographs. VOA’s Susan Logue has more on “Beyond: Visions of Our Solar System.”

Famed astronomer and popularizer of science discusses Islamic Science during its peak for 300 years in the middle ages. But his accusations against AlGhazali are simply false. Look him up yourself. en.wikipedia.org Al-Ghazali championed occassionalism, a philosophic view about causation that all things are ultimately caused by God, and everyday causes and effects are simply the habit of God causing events. This is a purely theological philosphic issue, and has nothing against studying nature. Al-Ghazali praised sciences such as medicine. He never said “Mathematics is from the devil”. I would love to see Tyson’s reference. And in any case Islam flourished for centuries after AlGhazali. Please do not let your bias and preconceived notions about religion being against science cause you to make unfair judgements. Islam is rational faith. The Quran constantly asks us to use reason, contemplate, and think about the signs and creations of God, to come to know Him. Believing in some things you have not seen based on an authority you trust is not irrational. We do it all the time for most of our info. The key is, establishing the core beliefs, do they make sense? Before Islam the Arabs were nothing. After it, they and other Muslims led civilization. peace

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope is back in business, ready to uncover new worlds, peer ever deeper into space, and even map the invisible backbone of the universe. The first snapshots from the refurbished Hubble showcase the 19-year-old telescope’s new vision. Topping the list of exciting new views are colorful multi-wavelength pictures of far-flung galaxies, a densely packed star cluster, an eerie “pillar of creation,” and a “butterfly” nebula. With its new imaging camera, Hubble can view galaxies, star clusters, and other objects across a wide swath of the electromagnetic spectrum, from ultraviolet to near-infrared light. A new spectrograph slices across billions of light-years to map the filamentary structure of the universe and trace the distribution of elements that are fundamental to life. The telescope’s new instruments also are more sensitive to light and can observe in ways that are significantly more efficient and require less observing time than previous generations of Hubble instruments. NASA astronauts installed the new instruments during the space shuttle servicing mission in May 2009. Besides adding the instruments, the astronauts also completed a dizzying list of other chores that included performing unprecedented repairs on two other science instruments

The three strands of deep science—injunction, apprehension, confirmation—give us a reliable methodology for learning about both the world without and the world within. Want to know what the moons of Jupiter look like? Look through a telescope. Want to know what satori is? Sit down and count your breaths. While you’re at it, have a couple friends do the same thing, and then compare notes. After all, if your experience of satori involves becoming one with a jelly donut, you, um, might want to see if that happened to anyone else….

We have seen to the edge of the visible universe. We have seen star nurseries and we have witnessed stellar death as well. We have seen the majesty of our galaxy only to have it trumped by even larger more majestic galaxies. We truly are a gifted race of carbon chains. To actually behold these images should touch your heart, as well as your mind. Enjoy these images and music by “Enigma”

What could be more fun for kids than to have the kind of rip-roaring good time that harkens back to pre-video game, pre-computer days? Introducing 64 valuable science experiments that snap, crackle, pop, ooze, crash, boom, and stink! From Marshmallows on Steroids to Home-Made Lightning, the Sandwich Bag Bomb to Giant Air Cannon, The Book of Totally Irresponsible Science awakens kids’ curiosity while demonstrating scientific principles like osmosis, air pressure, and Newton’s Third Law of Motion. Kids will love performing these experiments, which use common household ingredients and equipment, in front of an audience or for themselves (though many require adult supervision). Entries are categorized into seven chapters according to scientific theme and are written in a simple-to-follow recipe format. each includes a detailed explanation of the scientific principle involved and a “Take Care!” section with special tips. The book’s design and illustrations recall the pulp fiction look of science magazines from the days when space travel was still considered sci-fi, while the author’s voice is wry and a bit conspiratorial. He assumes his readers are clever and never coddles them. Drop Mentos into a bottle of diet soda and stand back as a geyser erupts! Launch a rocket made from a film canister! Encase your little brother in a giant soap bubble! For young scientists—and the young at heart—this book is a blast. Literally. www.workman.com

Brief artistic version video on Preexistence from Gods Creation. Here for Gods Science, Scot Aaron shows a spiritual (ie Spirit) Preexistence. Sagittarius A East is a 20000 year old Supernova Remnant in our orbital center, (ie Sgr A East is in the center of our Milky Way Galaxy). The first 10000 years represents a relative time, a Preexistent time where we exist as Spirits to organize the Creation for our current 10000 years. Our orbital Space in Preexistence appears to Fall or Expand from the Supernova Remnant Sagittarius A East (Sgr A East) for our current 10000 years. This is a brief introduction to Preexistence.
