A supernova (pl. supernovae) is a stellar explosion. Supernovae are extremely luminous and cause a burst of radiation that often briefly outshines an entire galaxy, before fading from view over several weeks or months. During this short interval, a supernova can radiate as much energy as the Sun could emit over its entire life span.[1] The explosion expels much or all of a star's material[2] at a velocity of up to 30000 km/s (a tenth the speed of light), driving a shock wave[3] into the surrounding interstellar medium. This shock wave sweeps up an expanding shell of gas and dust called a supernova remnant.

A time-traveller arrived at an experiment dedicated to studying the Big Bang and the mysteries of the Universe recently and a log of his travel is now available. John Barrowman, aka time-traveller Captain Jack from BBC television series Doctor Who and Torchwood visited CERN -- the world's largest physics experiment. At CERN, scientists are preparing the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), an experiment that will recreate conditions last seen fractions of a second after the Big Bang in order to ...

The occasional appearance of comets has awed humans throughout history. But how much do we really know about comets? Did a comet kill the dinosaurs? And, what can comets tell us about our own ancient history? With comet dust from NASA's Stardust mission, scientists like Hope Ishii, a Research Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, are beginning to answer these questions. She and high school teacher Tom Shefler look at how comets formed, their role in the Earth's history and the ...

He’s like Bill Nye with a tan.
PREACH IT, BROTHER!
While we’re on the topic of Neil Tyson’s awesome, does anyone happen to know where I can find the clip of him talking about his college art class where he painted pictures of pumpkins?
Whoever says that the artistic inclination of people would be blunted without religion, I present this speech.
If I died, I’d want Neil to deliver my eulogy.
I’ve always basked in the splendor of the mother-verse ,but this was the first time I shed a tear.
