This is an excerpt from Disney’s Mars and Beyond science show from 1957. Its an animated spoof of all of the pulp science fiction of the day, with the most generic, yet recognizable plot points around! Its such a great job, you could put it right in with all the books and films of the day, it would stand its ground. lol If you like this, I’m adding it to my 50s Sci-Fi Trailers playlist: missing-pieces.com And it is part of Disney’s Mars and Beyond show as a playlist I use on my website: missing-pieces.com That was the 3rd in a series that Disney did with Werner von Braun in the 50′s, following ‘Man in Space’: missing-pieces.com and ‘Man and the Moon’: missing-pieces.com and before ‘Eyes in Outer Space’: missing-pieces.com Enjoy!

Susskind discusses the story behind the black hole conflict and how it has led to a better idea of how our universe works – The Commonwealth Club of California Leonard Susskind is a theoretical physics professor at Stanford University in the field of string theory and quantum field theory. On Tuesday 26 September 2006 the ATLAS Collaboration was honoured by a very special visit to the detector in the underground cavern by Professor Stephen Hawking, the famous cosmologist holding the post of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University (position held by Isaac Newton in the 17th century). Professor Hawking was very keen to check for himself the status of the detector installation, and he admired, in particular, the spectacular TGC big muon wheel on side C. He was intrigued about the huge LHC interaction rate. He enquired about the differences between the SSC and the LHC, and was skeptical about the existence of the Higgs boson. He believes more in mini black holes. Hawking’s theory predicts spectacular events when black holes are produced. These mini black holes are expected to evaporate immediately by “Hawking radiation”. Discovered in 1655 by the Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens, Titan is the biggest of the 52 known moons orbiting Saturn. It is a cold world enclosed by a thick, hazy atmosphere impenetrable by telescopes and cameras. With an equatorial radius of 2575 kilometers (1600 miles), Titan is the second largest moon in our solar system. It’s bigger than our own moon and even the planet Mercury. Only Jupiter’s moon Ganymede is larger than Titan, with a diameter barely 112 kilometers (62 miles) greater. The temperature at Titan’s surface is about minus 178 degrees C (minus 289 degrees F). Titan orbits Saturn at a distance of about 1.2 million kilometers (745000 miles), taking almost 16 days to complete a full orbit – 15.94 days to be exact. Titan is of great interest to scientists because it is the only moon in the solar system known to have clouds and a mysterious, thick, planet-like atmosphere. In 1980, nasa’s Voyager 1 spacecraft tried to take close up images of the natural features of Titan’s landscape but was unable to penetrate the thick clouds. Instead, the images showed only slight color and brightness variations in the atmosphere. Titan’s atmospheric pressure is about 60 percent greater than Earth’s – roughly the same pressure found at the bottom of a swimming pool. In 1994, nasa’s Hubble Space Telescope recorded pictures of Titan, which suggested that a huge bright “continent” exists on the hemisphere that faces forward in orbit. These Hubble results don’t prove that

In the twenty second century, Malachi Constant, richest man in America, struggles in futility against his lifelong fate; a fate entwined with that of an all-knowing spiral named Winston Niles Ruumford, his estranged wife, his best friend Stony Stevenson, a guy named Boaz, the Martian army, the planet Mercury, the Church of God the Utterly Indifferent, Saturn’s moon Titan, and a Tralfamadorian messenger robot named Salo. This is a short animation I did for a presentation in my Introduction to Literature Course, based off of the novel “Sirens of Titan” by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. The music in the background of the film is “A Dead Spaceship,” by Kursad Karamahmutoglu. Winston Niles Ruumford was based off of Dana Elcar, famous for playing Peter Thornton on “macgyver.” Malachi Constant’s design is based off of yours truly.

A supernova (pl. supernovae) is a stellar explosion. Supernovae are extremely luminous and cause a burst of radiation that often briefly outshines an entire galaxy, before fading from view over several weeks or months. During this short interval, a supernova can radiate as much energy as the Sun could emit over its entire life span.[1] The explosion expels much or all of a star’s material[2] at a velocity of up to 30000 km/s (a tenth the speed of light), driving a shock wave[3] into the surrounding interstellar medium. This shock wave sweeps up an expanding shell of gas and dust called a supernova remnant.
