A Roll Cloud Over Uruguay These rare long clouds may form near advancing cold fronts. In particular, a downdraft from an advancing storm front can cause moist warm air to rise, cool below its dew point, and so form a cloud. When this happens uniformly along an extended front, a roll cloud may form. Roll clouds may actually have air circulating along the long horizontal axis of the cloud. A roll cloud is not thought to be able to morph into a tornado. • Learn more: antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov ? The Spotty Surface of Betelgeuse Betelgeuse really is a big star. If placed at the center of our Solar System it would extend to the orbit of Jupiter. But like all stars except the Sun, the red supergiant is so distant it usually appears as a single point of light, even in large telescopes. The intriguing picture shows two, large, bright, star spots. The spots potentially represent enormous convective cells rising from below the supergiant’s surface. They are bright because they’re hotter than the rest of the surface, but both spots and surface are cooler than the Sun. Betelgeuse is about 600 light-years away. • Learn more: antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov ? Toy Soldier Day: Science Museum of Virginia

logo

In observance of Toy Soldier Day, members of Division 9001 (Central and Eastern Virginia) and 669 (West Virginia Pitchfork Brigade) engaged in tactical play time and world makeover research at the Science Museum of Virginia! I took a lot more photos and quite a bit less video than I usually do for these events, so I combined equal portions of the two. Black hole on Earth 10/9/2008 CERN www.studitube.ws

logo

www.studitube.ws CERN is conducting an underground launch on Wednesday the 10th of September 2008 of their Large Hardon Collider which will basically create a small version of the big bang in order for us to understand how matter was created after the explosion happened. It could potentially help answer many questions about our universe; however, a professor is saying that their is a possibility of creating a black hole on earth that could potentially turn into chaos. A prediction by Nostradamus was made about a black hole near Vienna along with many quotes in the Bible (I am not a Christian). Be ready for the launch, it will be September 10th of 2008. Let’s hope that nothing bad happens! Good luck to us all!

Earth Today – Scientific Visualizations Of The Planet

logo

airboyd.tv Happy Belated Earth Day! The ability to see Earth from space has forever changed our view of the planet. We are now able to look at the Earth as a whole, and observe how its atmosphere, oceans, land masses, and life interact as global systems. Earth’s atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere are dynamic, changing on timescales of days, minutes, or even seconds. Monitoring the Earth in near real time allows us to get an up to date picture of conditions on our planet.
