Montage photos of Lunar Eclipse Start time: 12:13pm – 5:01am. The last time these astronomical events took place in sync was on Dec. 21, 1638, and it won’t happen again until at least 2094. I did not use a tripod, or remote and hand held to capture each photo. You will see the photos, as seen by my view, and through lens, no photo shopping was done. It was -7c. In the above single exposure image, meticulous planning enabled careful photographers to capture the partially eclipsed Sun well posed just above the ancient ruins of the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Greece. • antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov ? Dust Sculptures in the Rosette Nebula Noted for the common beauty of its overall shape, parts of the Rosette Nebula, also known as NGC 2237, show beauty even when viewed up close. Visible above are globules of dark dust and gas that are slowly being eroded away by the energetic light and winds by nearby massive stars. Left alone long enough, the molecular-cloud globules would likely form stars and planets. In episode 30 of the Hubblecast, we saw some of the very first pictures to come back from Wide Field Camera 3, Hubble’s newest and most advanced instrument. Astronomy Presentation

Back in either 11th or 12th grade, we had this presentation that was optional in Astronomy that had to deal with putting pictues together to make a slide show. This is how my Astronomy class figured out I liked hip-hop, which oddly enough has always been true for me, though the teacher’s speakers were sorta weird, so they didn’t get to hear the music and the 5 second clip from the trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4. So, I hope you’ll get a better sound experience than they did. Enjoy! (Also,my Mac doesn’t have Windows Media Player, so this is brought you by my family’s comp in Colorado Springs. yay:)

A Roll Cloud Over Uruguay These rare long clouds may form near advancing cold fronts. In particular, a downdraft from an advancing storm front can cause moist warm air to rise, cool below its dew point, and so form a cloud. When this happens uniformly along an extended front, a roll cloud may form. Roll clouds may actually have air circulating along the long horizontal axis of the cloud. A roll cloud is not thought to be able to morph into a tornado. • Learn more: antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov ? The Spotty Surface of Betelgeuse Betelgeuse really is a big star. If placed at the center of our Solar System it would extend to the orbit of Jupiter. But like all stars except the Sun, the red supergiant is so distant it usually appears as a single point of light, even in large telescopes. The intriguing picture shows two, large, bright, star spots. The spots potentially represent enormous convective cells rising from below the supergiant’s surface. The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment Camera is a camera on board the NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. — Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com — The 65 kg, $40 million (USD) instrument was built under the direction of the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. It consists of a 0.5 meter reflecting telescope, the largest of any deep space mission, which allows it to take pictures with resolutions up to 0.3 m, resolving objects about a meter across, or the size of a beachball. The HiRISE camera is designed to view surface features of Mars in greater detail than has previously been possible. This allows for the study of the age of Martian features, looking for landing sites for future Mars landers, and in general, seeing the Martian surface in far greater detail than has previously been done from orbit.
