This is an excerpt from Disney’s Mars and Beyond science show from 1957. Its an animated spoof of all of the pulp science fiction of the day, with the most generic, yet recognizable plot points around! Its such a great job, you could put it right in with all the books and films of the day, it would stand its ground. lol If you like this, I’m adding it to my 50s Sci-Fi Trailers playlist: missing-pieces.com And it is part of Disney’s Mars and Beyond show as a playlist I use on my website: missing-pieces.com That was the 3rd in a series that Disney did with Werner von Braun in the 50′s, following ‘Man in Space’: missing-pieces.com and ‘Man and the Moon’: missing-pieces.com and before ‘Eyes in Outer Space’: missing-pieces.com Enjoy!

Werner von Braun worked with Walt Disney to produce this section about how we might get to Mars. This was actually sent to President Eisenhower & was the current thinking at the time, which became so scaled down to what we did to get to the moon! Rare Walt Disney Space series from 1957, speculating about Mars. Remember, almost 50 years ago, only Sputnik had gone up 2 months earlier!

This family really knows how to have a ball on summer vacation. Packing up early to go home seemed like the highlight until Dad started lecturing on the importance of science. Betty is the jokester of the group (which isn’t saying much) and she’s beside her self with shock that Dad talks about science fictiony stuff like going to the moon. Oh, and of course Mom has to have her two cents. Apparently, if she hadn’t taken science courses, she wouldn’t be able to look things up in encyclopedias.
