TO MARS IN MINIATURE… 2055: Voyage to Mars” takes us on a journey of discovery, as Nasa launch their first manned mission to Mars. Inspired by the late master of model special effects, Derek Meddings, David Ross brings the special effects principles which saw their hey-day in the sixties and seventies back to life with everyday household objects. No CGI was used to create these special effects. The film was made in my garage and garden for a college project. Thanks for watching!

The Ymir bears striking physical similarity to another Harryhausen creation, the Kraken, from 1981′s Clash of the Titans. The names of both of these creatures were taken from Norse mythology, employed in wholly unrelated contexts. In Norse mythology, Ymir was a giant of unimaginable size who lay frozen in ice at the beginning of time. The universe was created from Ymir’s body by Odin, king of the Norse pantheon, and his two brothers.
