Eclipse over the Temple of Poseidon The Moon moved to partly block the Sun for a few minutes last week as a partial solar eclipse became momentarily visible across part of planet Earth. Dust Sculptures in the Rosette Nebula Noted for the common beauty of its overall shape, parts of the Rosette Nebula, also known as NGC 2237, show beauty even when viewed up close. Visible above are globules of dark dust and gas that are slowly being eroded away by the energetic light and winds by nearby massive stars. Left alone long enough, the molecular-cloud globules would likely form stars and planets. He currently serves as Chairman and CEO of the Intellisis Companies which focus on high-tech consulting and the development of biologically inspired technologies, including the next generation of computers and robots. Goldin is credited with transforming NASA into a fiscally responsible and scientifically innovative agency. Among other accomplishments, he initiated the Origins Program to study how our solar system formed, how life on Earth began and to explore whether it exists elsewhere in the universe. He was also a vigorous proponent for increased exploration to determine if water and life may have ever existed elsewhere in our own solar system.

It consists of a 0.5 meter reflecting telescope, the largest of any deep space mission, which allows it to take pictures with resolutions up to 0.3 m, resolving objects about a meter across, or the size of a beachball. The HiRISE camera is designed to view surface features of Mars in greater detail than has previously been possible. This allows for the study of the age of Martian features, looking for landing sites for future Mars landers, and in general, seeing the Martian surface in far greater detail than has previously been done from orbit. A father-of-three from Huddersfield has captured images of earth from space using a weather balloon. Starting in October 2008, 38-year-old Robert Harrison filled 12 High Altitude Balloons with helium and launched them 35 kilometres into the atmosphere. Having wrapped a digital camera and Global Positioning System device in loft insulation and linked it to computer software on the ground, he More..was able to track the balloons’ progress. He said: “The first time I saw the pictures, I couldn’t believe it.” The rare images caught the attention of experts in the field and it wasn’t long before Harrison received a telephone call from NASA. In total, the project cost Harrison £4000 and he believes the achievement was worth every penny.
