If you’ve ever had a piece of jewelry that leaves a yellow spot on your skin you’ve most likely asked yourself what the cause is. Basically ; your skin is reacting to basic metals to everyone who wears inexpensive jewelry.
This occurs to some faster than others- though, because our bodies are all unique.
Even jewelry you pay more for can have the same effect- reason being it’s not one hundred percent pure~ regardless of cost. Platinum hardly ever reacts with skin so no worries if you own platinum jewelry. To keep gold jewelry reacting to your skin confirm that its authentic and not gold plated or gold rinsed jewelry – the base metal might be cheap and then covered with gold and that coating wears off very quickly. For ‘real’ gold jewelry choosing a higher karat only can help reduce the marks that are left on your skin.
Jewelry made from copper will green your skin and there isn’t a whole lot you can do about that.
Try to avoid sweating in your jewelry it can amplify the skin to metal reaction you might also ask your jeweler if they can add a layer of protective coating – to minimize the amount of green reaction your skin has. If you do this you should be able to wear your jewelry quite often. Keep in mind; the green discoloration isn’t harmful. It’s just a skin reaction and not an allergic reaction.
Metal allergic reactions causes reddening plus it could also make your skin feel itchy and inflamed. It’s not anything like a green skin reaction. If you do show signs of allery stop wearing the jewelry. Green skin shouldnt scare you ore keep you from wearing your favorite pieces you’ll just have to keep the area clean so it doesn’t look bad.
At the end of the day applying a coating is probably the answer.
