The world’s largest particle physics laboratory is under construction on the border between Switzerland and France. At the heart is the Large Hadron Collider Particle Accelerator being built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Its members hope it will reveal secrets of the universe and its formation. The goal of the project is to discover the origin of matter by replicating conditions just after “the big bang.” Twenty nations and international bodies make up CERN. Last April, scientists and journalists gathered at its Swiss headquarters, as the last of 1700 huge magnets was lowered into the Large Hadron Collider or LHC. CERN Director General Robert Aymar said, “It is an enormous task, with very tricky logistics, because the tunnel is very narrow, and when we move the magnets in nobody can be in the way.” The particle accelerator and collider is a 27 kilometer tunnel, about 100 meters underground. CERN spokesman James Gillies describes the accelerator. “This is a discovery machine. It’s built to make discoveries and is going to tell us lots of new things about the universe.” If all goes as planned, subatomic particles will be accelerated around the tunnel next year, eventually approach light speed, and smash into one another. Gillies adds, “To me the most exciting thing is that we know an awful lot about a small amount of the universe. We understand the stars, the galaxies, the stuff which makes up you and me, but we also know from cosmology that is …

This video contains graphic portrayals and enhancements voiced over by extracts from Yales on-line course: Frontiers/Controversies in Astrophysics (ASTR 160), explaining black holes, singularity and the event horizon. The course is meant for non-science undergraduates so it’s relatively easy but still retains scientific accuracy. In this part of lecture 9, professor Bailyn explains in short what black holes are, the problems of understanding them and the weird things the happen inside the event horizon. I strongly recommend watching the entire course it’s meant for non-science undergraduates, so it’s very simple, and yet extremely reveling. See the whole lecture here: www.youtube.com

Rainwater Observatory is a world class observatory located in the small town of French Camp, MS. When I visited there I was shocked to find out they didn’t have any type of promotional videos on the internet. They believe science supports faith, just as I do. The directors were kind enough to stay late and allow me to create a shoot this footage so I could make a short film for them. There’s lots of time lapse footage, as well as images taken from their Sangre telescope. Call them to set up a tour! We looked at the moon when I was there. In my experience Faith supports science, and vice versa. “The Heavens Declare the Glory of God”. Pennywhistle Productions

Advanced civilizations have been here before us, just to be destroyed by some great global catastrophy. But for each race that has died out another has taken its place with a selected few holding on to the memories and sacred knowledge of the past race. In our vanity we think we have discovered some of the great truths of science and technology.. but we are in fact just beginning to re-discover the wisdoms and technologies past races. The discovery of new planets in the last two hundred years owes more to mathematics than to bigger telescopes. Mathematical irregularities in the orbits of the outer planets, in particular, strange wobbles and gravitational anomalies noted in the orbits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, have prompted astronomers over the past hundred years to search for a large planetary body in the outer solar system. Based on mathematical evidence, astronomers have been so sure of the reality of this planet that they named it Planet X. The name stands for the tenth planet, as well as the mathematical symbol for an unknown quantity. Has history been tampered with? According to the official version of history, Russia remained under the political and military yoke of the Mongols for many centuries on end. CLICK ON AMAZON LINK! The term “Mongol” is usually assumed to have always meant the same thing – however, this turns out to be incorrect. Bear in mind that Mongolia didn’t exist as an independent state until the early 20th century! The word “Mongol” simply meant “Great One” – its association with the nomadic tribes hailing from the steppes north of China is a later invention! :There was no such thing as the Tartar and Mongol invasion followed by two centuries of slavery. The so-called “Tartars and Mongols” were the actual ancestors of the modern Russians, living in a bilingual state with Arabic spoken as freely as Russian. The ancient Russian state was governed by a double structure of civil and military authorities. The hordes were actually professional armies with a tradition of lifelong conscription (the recruitment being the so-called “blood tax”). Their so called “invasions” were punitive operations against the regions that attempted tax evasion. Russian history as we know it today is a blatant forgery concocted by a host of German scientists brought to Russia in luggage of the usurper dynasty of the Romanovs. But why did Horde have to be invented? The reason is simple – the actual “Mongol conquerors of Russia” never existed. The yoke theory was created by the German court historians of the new …

Did Mars once have an environment capable of supporting life? nasa’s next rover will further unravel that mystery. Mars Exploration Rover Mission: marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov youtube Play-list: www.youtube.com nasa’s twin robot geologists, the Mars Exploration Rovers, launched toward Mars on June 10 and July 7, 2003, in search of answers about the history of water on Mars. They landed on Mars January 3 and January 24 PST, 2004 (January 4 and January 25 UTC, 2004). Primary among the mission’s scientific goals is to search for and characterize a wide range of rocks and soils that hold clues to past water activity on Mars. The spacecraft are targeted to sites on opposite sides of Mars that appear to have been affected by liquid water in the past. The landing sites are at Gusev Crater, a possible former lake in a giant impact crater, and Meridiani Planum, where mineral deposits (hematite) suggest Mars had a wet past. After the airbag-protected landing craft settled onto the surface and opened, the rovers rolled out to take panoramic images. These images give scientists the information they need to select promising geological targets that tell part of the story of water in Mars’ past. Then, the rovers drive to those locations to perform on-site scientific investigations. Mars Exploration Rover Mission: Overview: marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov The rovers offer unique contributions in pursuit of the overall Mars science strategy to “Follow the Water.” Understanding the history of water on …

Mars is a cold desert planet with no liquid water on its surface. But in the Martian arctic, water ice lurks just below ground level. Discoveries made by the Mars Odyssey Orbiter in 2002 show large amounts of subsurface water ice in the northern arctic plain. The Phoenix lander targets this circumpolar region using a robotic arm to dig through the protective top soil layer to the water ice below and ultimately, to bring both soil and water ice to the lander platform for sophisticated scientific analysis. The complement of the Phoenix spacecraft and its scientific instruments are ideally suited to uncover clues to the geologic history and biological potential of the Martian arctic. Phoenix will be the first mission to return data from either polar region providing an important contribution to the overall Mars science strategy “Follow the Water” and will be instrumental in achieving the four science goals of nasa’s long-term Mars Exploration Program. –Determine whether Life ever arose on Mars –Characterize the Climate of Mars –Characterize the Geology of Mars –Prepare for Human Exploration The Phoenix Mission has two bold objectives to support these goals, which are to (1) study the history of water in the Martian arctic and (2) search for evidence of a habitable zone and assess the biological potential of the ice-soil boundary. Trailblazing has been the business of JPL since it was established by the California Institute of Technology in the 1930s. America’s first satellite, Explorer 1 which launched in 1958, was created at JPL. In the decades that followed, we sent the first robotic craft to the moon and out across the solar system, reconnoitering all of the planets. Pushing the outer edge of exploration, in fact, is the reason JPL exists as a NASA laboratory. In that spirit, this is an exceptionally busy period for JPL in laying new paths. An exciting step in the search for exoplanets took place recently when we launched Kepler, a spaceborne telescope that will seek out Earth-like planets as they pass in front of other stars. JPL is contributing key technology to two European Space Agency spacecraft to be launched together in April, Herschel and Planck. Later this year we will launch another observatory, the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer. They join our currently operational Spitzer Space Telescope and Galaxy Evolution Explorer astronomical missions. The early universe, contained within just a few millimeters, was very hot and densely packed with matter. Ever since that initial explosion, the universe has continued to expand and cool. Gee…I wonder why??
LOL
Venus is more doable than Mars…
Or you can buy a telescope, find mars and see that it is indeed red.
Does NASA/JPL ever stop showing Mars as being red? Common it’s 2008! Show us the blue skies, the warm temperatures, the dark brown soil, the discovered microbial life, the algae and small vegetation. We’re ready now.
Sure, those under-cut the next missions to “officially” discover it. So what. It’s all there and we know it, so cut the BS and show us the high ress true color shots!!
Most of earth is blue though, that’s why it looks like blue from a great distance. When you get close you can see a little of it is also green, yellow and orange. Mars is pretty much all red and looks red when you get close to it too.
Land something in Valles Marineris, please! :’(
That…is…amazing!
